Food for Fighters (1943)

K-ration K-ration was an individual daily combat food ration which was introduced by the United States Army during the Second World War. It should last for a day and provided three courses: breakfast, dinner (lunch) and dinner. While it was intended that the three meals are eaten in the said order, they were not always issued in this way. History In 1941, Dr. Ancel Keys (a University of Minnesota physiologist) was assigned by the U.S. War Department, a non-durable construction,ready-to-eat meal that could fit into a soldier pocket. Keys went to a local supermarket to purchase food, the cost would choose, but its still enough to provide energy. He purchased hard biscuits, dry sausages, sweets and chocolate. He tested its 28-ounce, 3,200 calories (871 grams, 13400 kJ) meals of six soldiers in a nearby military base. The meals only gained "palatable" and "better than nothing" ratings from the soldiers, but were in alleviating hunger and providing successfulsufficient energy. The army has a few additional elements and named the K-rations packs, possibly in honor of Dr. Keys. Developed with ideas from the USAAF rescue ration, the K-ration first saw use in 1942, when it was issued by the U.S. paratroopers for the test.
